U-13 Girls Represent the Club in Prestigious Tournament

The Green White Girls U13 Knights team traveled to Blaine Minnesota to participate in the Schwan's USA Cup. Over 400 of the top teams from 20 states and 17 countries come to Minnesota for this tournament.

After settling into to their hotel, the girls jumped right into the tournament on Friday, achieving a 3-1 win against a FC United Storm side from Iowa. Later that day the girls recorded a 4-2 win against a talented SC Metro FC Riot team from Minnesota.  After a long day of travel, the girls and their coaches were thrilled with this quick start against strong opponents.

On Saturday, the girls got a 3-1 win versus United Hurricanes Kane from Wisconsin, putting them alone at the top of their group, and earning them a bye in the quarter finals. Now Green White was guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals!

The semi-finals matched the Green White Girls against DePere Select of Wisconsin.  Green White converted a penalty (by Ashley W.), but Depere scored to tie the game 1-1 at the end of regulation. After two short 5 minute extra time periods yielded no goals, the game went into penalty kicks.  Lauryn, Tina, and Ashley A, all calmly ignored the pressure, and converted for Green White, while Mackenzie saved 2 opposing penalties to put the girls through to the finals.

Unfortunately, the tough semi-final game and the rugged games the day before, had taken a toll on the girls. They were tired and banged up. Only three of the girls hadn't suffered some of sort of injury--and all of them were tired. The 5th game in 3 days proved to be a step too far.  The girls were not able to get a win against Appleton Wisconsin and ended up runner's up in the tournament.

Nevertheless, the girls were proud of their silver medals, and the team had a great time. They were able to meet players, fans, and referees from all over the world. It was a great dress rehearsal for next summer's adventure; their planned trip to Germany.

Congratulations, girls!
