GREEN WHITE TOPSoccer

Green White TOPSoccer is a adaptive soccer program for any youth  or young adults (ages 6 to 22) facing special cognitive, physical and/or emotional challenges, including but limited to, athletes who are blind, confined to a wheelchair, emotionally/mentally challenged, athletes with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or other conditions that impair mobility, strength, and/or comprehension.

What is TOPSoccer??

Green White's TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a buddy soccer training and participation program for children with all disabilities. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHAT IS TOPSOCCER?
A: TOPSoccer (The Outreach program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs.  The TOPSoccer program is designed and administered by US Youth Soccer and its volunteer TOPSoccer committee provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to these young athletes through the game of soccer.

Q: WHO PARTICIPATES IN TOP SOCCER?
A: A TOPSoccer player is defined as any youth player between the ages of 6 and 23 (other ages may be able to be accommodated please contact mfolkers@greenwhitesoccer.org) who has any disability that limits their ability to perform at the level of play in which they have chosen to participate.

Q: WHO COACHES THE SESSIONS?
A: The sessions are lead by coaches that have been trained by IYSA specifically for TOPSoccer.

Q: WHO ARE BUDDIES?
A: Buddies are volunteers, who will be paired up with players to help them succeed, learn and have fun.  

Q: I MISSED REGISTERING IN TIME...
A: Even if you missed the first session or want to join mid session, no problem you can join any time, just contact Mike Folkers at mfolkers@greenwhitesoccer.org to get registered. 

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OR BRING TO THE FIRST SESSION?

  • Shin guards - All players are required to wear shin guards under socks during each session
  • Water - Please bring a water to each session
  • Comfortable clothing - sessions take place outside and take place indoors during the winter session so please dress accordingly,
  • CLEATS ARE NOT REQUIRED (and not allowed during the winter session) - if you would like you can wear soccer cleats but they are not required.  
  • At least one parent is required to stay during the entire time during the session.
  • The field is near I90 so there is some traffic noise so please be aware as some participants may find this to be a distraction or create some anxiety 
  • Indoor bathrooms are available, however currently do not meet ADA standards at this time.  Improvements are being planned.

Q: WHAT IS THE MISSION OF TOPSOCCER?
A: TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition.

Our goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self-esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer.

Q: MONEY IS TIGHT IN OUR FAMILY RIGHT NOW IS THERE ANY ASSISTANCE?
A: There is a nominal fee for the season to cover costs of t-shirts, jerseys and medals.  However if this will create a financial hardship please contact us and let us know. No worries, we have sponsor and donors that are willing to cover some of the player costs.  We do not want to turn any player away.

Q: I WANT TO HELP....
A: Volunteers are the backbone of Green White and especially TOPSoccer.  Whether it is donating, sponsoring, coordinating or getting the word out.  Please contact Mike Folkers at mfolkers@greenwhitesoccer.org if you would like to help. 

Q: HOW DO I BECOME A BUDDY?
A: If you are 11 or older, can commit to most sessions and want to be a buddy to a participant please visit the Buddy page at www.greenwhitesoccer.org/buddy
